First Saturday Art Reception: Milne’s At Home Antiques with Outsider Artist Bruno Del Favero | The Arts

On Saturday June 1,  Milne’s At Home Antiques will show a selection of works by an important American Outsider Artist Bruno Del Favero.

Outsiderish things happen in Del Favero’s landscapes.  Large, merry-looking animals gambol on multi-level terrains; old-fashioned sailboats, toy and adult, float on ponds and waterways.  Many pieces have slow-moving planes hovering overhead. Cities and buildings with quirky tops are juxtaposed with race cars or animals.  A body of water overflows with huge fish that appear to be swallowing it up. And in an animal-haunted cityscape a snake hovers in the air, coiled in the middle of what seems to be a flame.  His painterly visions appear to be stirred by a wistful yearning for adventure, physical and spiritual.
Pieces of Bruno Del Favero’s work are included in the Outsider Art exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art  (April 2013). The exhibition celebrates the planned donation of around 200 pieces of 20th-century American Outsider Art collection amassed over 30 years by  Jill and Sheldon Bonovitz..

End: June 1, 2013 5:00 pm

First Saturday Art Reception: The Storefront Gallery | The Arts

The Storefront Gallery at 93 Broadway is pleased to feature the paintings of  Pablo Shine for the month of June  in a show titled, Tropico.  The opening reception is Saturday, June 1st, from 5-8pm.

Pablo Shine’s recent work is the result of a process of exploration that was triggered a few years ago by getting reacquainted with Afro-Caribbean music. In this case, mainly with the rhythm and dance of Bomba and Plena from his native Puerto Rico and the Rumba and Santeria music of their sister island Cuba. Playing these African based rhythms he began to be inspired to paint images that relate to the folklore, culture and the tropical beauty found in the lush and vibrant flora of Puerto Rico.

Gallery hours are Saturday 1-6pm and 24/7 through the storefront windows. Also by appointment.  Or visit www.TheStorefrontGallery.com. For more information, call 845-338-8473.
